17 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This specification discloses a process for manufacturing a plurality of articles in which the articles are stacked generally one upon another during a portion of the manufacture thereof. The process is initiated by selecting a substrate from a plurality of substrates. A pattern of material with a first height dimension is deposited on a selected surface of the substrate. The pattern of material contains at least one component which is heat fusible with the substrate when heated to a fusion temperature. A plurality of spacing dots having a height greater than the first height are deposited on a surface of a substrate. The plurality of spacing dots are out of registry with the pattern of material on the substrate and are formed from a radiation curable material which is heat decomposable into components which are nonreactive with the substrate. The radiation curable material is cured thereby to form a plurality of spacing dots. The cured spacing dots are capable of supporting weight thereon. The substrate with the cured supporting dots thereon is stacked to form a stack of such substrates. Other substrates are similarly processed and stacked until a complete stack of such substrates is formed. A completed stack of such substrates is moved to a heating lehr which is operated at a temperature sufficiently high to heat the pattern of material to its fusion temperature. The stack of substrates is unstacked one at a time and the unstacked substrates are passed through the lehr. In this manner the fusable pattern of material is fused to the substrate and the plurality of spacing dots are decomposed into components nonreactive with the substrate.
