A method for controlling operation modes of a medium access control layer by a mobile subscriber station in a broadband wireless access communication system including the mobile subscriber station and a serving base station providing service to the mobile subscriber station is provided. The method includes the steps of: mode-transiting into an idle mode when there is no data transmission between the serving base station and the mobile subscriber station during a predetermined first time interval in an awake mode; detecting movement of the mobile subscriber station in the idle mode into another paging zone covering a target base station, which is different from a paging zone covering the serving base station; and mode-transiting into the awake mode and performing location update together with the target base station when the movement of the mobile subscriber station is detected.
Procédé de commande des modes de fonctionnement d'une couche de commande d'accès au support par une station d'abonné mobile dans un système de communication à accès sans fil large bande, comprenant ladite station d'abonné mobile et une station de base serveur assurant des services à l'intention de la station d'abonné. Ce procédé comprend les étapes consistant à réaliser une transition vers un mode repos lorsqu'il n'y a pas de transmission de données entre la station de base serveur et la station d'abonné mobile au cours d'une première période prédéfinie dans un mode éveil; détecter le déplacement de la station d'abonné mobile en mode repos vers une autre zone de recherche, recouvrant une station de base cible, qui est différente d'une zone de recherche recouvrant la station de base serveur; et réaliser une transition de mode vers le mode éveil ainsi qu'une mise à jour d'emplacement avec la station de base cible lorsque le déplacement de la station d'abonné mobile est détecté.
